Dr. Miljeteig is a Research Fellow and a physician. She is currently working on a PhD in Ethics at the Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care and Centre for International Health University of Bergen in Norway. The title of her PhD project is: “Priority setting in low income countries: Ethical aspects of the use and development of clinical guidelines in neonatology.” Supervising Dr. Miljeteig’s thesis is Professor Ole Frithjof Norheim (also recently a visiting scholar in the Harvard Program in Ethics and Health, 2005-6). The first part of her project is theoretical; analysis of normative arguments in clinical practise guidelines. The last part of the project is empirical; qualitative fieldwork on priority setting in an Indian neonatal intensive care unit. Data will be analysed using N. Daniels’ and J. Sabin’s “Accountability for Reasonableness” framework. Other area of interest include medical ethics with a focus on justice and priority setting in high-tech medicine, thical aspects of clinical guidelines and evidence based medicine, and medical decision-making.
